Die Insel

2016
PREMIERE Weltkunstzimmer Düsseldorf

If you ask a Japanese about his home country, in most cases you will get the following answer: “You know, Japan is an island.” This sentence already answers most of the questions about Japan, but what it reveals most of all is the self-conception of the Japanese to be inhabitants of an island. This self-conception is not only based on the idea that somewhere behind the sea is a continent. It also comes from the fact that every island is its own continent in the end.
