WE NEED FICTION

Trailer

The dancer and choreographer Chikako Kaido wants to explore the effects of stories on people through sand play, sound installation and body language. The theme of the dance piece is therefore the necessity of fiction. The spatial and mental framework is the sand play. The stories that are conveyed on a physical level have the end of the world as their theme. The necessity of fiction is not an escape from reality. It is an attempt to understand reality through its abstraction.

“The way reality is invented shows our mind and our inner world more than the information on the internet, TV, etc. Thinking about world’s end helps us to survive in our time. People are always searching for a new mythology. Individual stories can be represented by a variety of universal stories.”

The dance piece WE NEED FICTION deals with the need to tell these universal stories based on choreographic material. In a world that runs so much on information, we need more fiction.
